From Winter into Early Spring: Narcissus and Plum in the Valleys

Winter, when Kamakura grows quiet, is flower season in the valleys. This is a short half-day route you can walk slowly while the crowds are away.

The route

  • Egara Tenjin Shrine: during exam season, red and white plum bloom on either side of the vermilion hall.
  • On past Kamakura-gu, deeper into the valley.
  • Zuisen-ji: narcissus in deep winter, plum in early spring. The temple of flowers at its quietest.

A fork in the road

If you get cold, go back to Wakaremichi for breakfast or dinner. With time to spare, head east along the Kanazawa Kaido and change to the Temple Path.
