The Valley Path on a Sunny Day

Turn north at Wakaremichi into the valleys between the hills. The deeper you go the quieter it gets, until the path ends at Muso Soseki’s garden.

The route

  • Wakaremichi
  • Egara Tenjin Shrine: the god of learning. Don’t miss the Kappa Brush Mound.
  • Kamakura-gu Shrine: halfway along the Valley Path, where the road divides.
  • Site of Yofuku-ji: the site of Yoritomo’s great temple. Imagine the halls under the wide sky.
  • Zuisen-ji: the far end of the valley, with seasonal flowers and the rock garden.
  • Walk back the way you came, or take the bus from Kamakura-gu to Kamakura Station.

A fork in the road

If you are a strong walker, take the Ten-en hiking course from beside the gate of Zuisen-ji and follow the ridge toward Kencho-ji. It is a mountain trail, so wear good shoes and allow plenty of time.

Opening hours, fees and closing days may change. Please check official information before you go.
