The Temple Path on a Rainy Day

Rainy Kamakura has fewer people and deeper greens. This half-day route follows the Kanazawa Kaido east from Wakaremichi, visiting three old temples in turn.

The route

  • Wakaremichi (bus from Kamakura Station to the “Wakaremichi” stop)
  • Sugimoto-dera: wet with rain, the mossy steps are an even deeper green than on a sunny day.
  • Hokoku-ji: into the bamboo garden, then tea at Kyukoan to the sound of the rain.
  • Jomyo-ji: rest over the dry landscape garden at Kisenan.
  • Take the bus back to Kamakura Station, or return to Wakaremichi for dinner.

A fork in the road

If the rain stops in the early afternoon, change from Jomyo-ji to the Sea Path.

Opening hours, fees and closing days may change. Please check official information before you go.
