Mon Péché Mignon

A short way east of Wakaremichi along the Kanazawa Kaido, at the start of the Temple Path, there is a doorway that smells of bread. Mon Péché Mignon has so many kinds of bread that choosing is a struggle every time.

Our pick

If you can’t decide, get the casse-croûte: a French-style sandwich made with a baguette. Mignon’s casse-croûte is gloriously wild. It makes a solid breakfast at Wakaremichi, or lunch for a day on the Temple Path.

How to use it

  • Weekend mornings: come at opening time for fresh bread and coffee in the upstairs seating.
  • Weekday mornings: on days when it opens later, buy the day before and have breakfast at your lodging.
  • On the Temple Path: take something to go before heading for Sugimoto-dera and Hokoku-ji.
